If you visited Google search earlier this week, you may have noticed a familiar face. On Monday, Oct. 29, Google honored?Bob Ross, host of "The Joy of Painting," on what would've been his 70th birthday.
I am a big fan of Bob Ross. I'm not much of an artist, but I do love to draw and paint. Bob Ross helped instill that love of painting in me.
While some art instructors might spend a lot of time focusing on the perfect technique or technical discussions, Bob Ross is about action. Put some paint on your brush and do what I do, he seems to say.
The other great thing about Bob Ross is that, when painting along with him, you cannot make a mistake. Seriously, it's impossible because, as he always tells his audience, "There are no mistakes, only happy accidents."?
When my son was a toddler, he used to be absolutely mesmerized by "The Joy of Painting." If you've ever watched, you know why. Bob Ross has the most calming, soothing demeanor (see video). The most excited he gets is when he slaps his brush back and forth against his easel to dry it off. That tickles me because he nearly always chuckles when he does it.
Ross died in 1995 at age 52 from lymphoma, but you can still enjoy his work and learn from him by watching "The Joy of Painting" on PBS.
